Add Bokashi to Traditional Compost Methods to Speed Up Process!
Bokashi Compost can be added to your Traditional Composting Methods.
- Dig a hole into your compost pile
- Bury your bokashi compost into the pile.
- Cover the bokashi compost and let it sit for two - four weeks*.
- Bokashi Compost will decompose within this time and speed up your traditional pile's decomposition.
Compost Pile - Active or Stagnate
A traditional compost pile is located outside, using an aerobic process requiring air, greens like food waste, browns like dried leaves, water and some sun. Turn the compost pile each time organics are added mixing in some brown matter and you will have the black gold your looking for to add to soil. This process can take seasons to create rich dark compost but the more you work it the more you get out of it. Typically it takes three to six months to get a few pounds of compost.
Or you can just leave the organics to do their thing naturally in their own good time. Eventually the mixture will decompose and breakdown to a dark rich crumbly material that is loaded with beneficial microbes, insects and worms that can be added to gardens, turf or landscaping.

Compost Tumbler
Compost tumblers have their limitations. First, you need a secure space to keep them outside. Many compost tumblers are not rodent proof and the ones that are can be hundreds of dollars. They also have a finite holding capacity, that when near full can make them very heavy and hard to turn.
Compost Pallets
Compost bins can be made from used pallets. It's a great way to recycle and use yard and kitchen waste if you have the space. Yard waste and Kitchen scraps are added to the first section then turned over into the next section and can be continued to the third section where you will have dark rich compost to add to gardens and landscapes.
Earth Machine
The Earth Machine offers a simple sleek black design that is contained and easy to use. There are a few adjustments that can be made to the design by adding clasps to the separating pieces so the entire unit can be picked up and moved to the side one full. After picking up the unit put the top layer, which is probably not decomposed yet, back into the unit and screen the bottom layers of material for dark rich compost.
